Honey Bee Removal Surveys & the need for them
There’s rarely a need for a very expensive bee survey that tells you little or for a drone to take aerial photographs of what is already known, all that is usually needed is a few photographs and some questions answered for us to be able to give you a guide on what is required to remove and relocate the bees.
Do not commit to a bee survey until you have spoken to us. You probably don’t need one. Speak to us & benefit from our knowledge
Honey bee removal surveys & Thermal Images
A thermal imaging camera is the most useful item when carrying out a honey bee removal survey, the camera can in a lot of scenarios identify where the bee colony is clustering.
It is not always able to tell you everything, it relies on a variance of heat between the area the bees are clustered and the surrounding areas showing on the surface covering, be it a wall, ceiling or other.
So if there is a large amount of insulation i.e. Kingspan board between the ceiling & the colony you are unlikely to see a thermal variance, or if you are looking at a south facing wall on a warm day you are unlikely to see a thermal variance.
For most honey bee removal jobs there is no need for a honey bee survey, usually we can tell whats going on from a few good, quality photos.
Usually a modern phones camera can provide the necessary information so saving on the cost of a honey bee removal survey.
Once we arrive at site to carry out the work we tend to have a quick look with a thermal imager to ensure we are on track to do the right thing.
You can see from the images below how beneficial this can be.

Honey Bees in Chimney
We attend more chimney honey bee removals than we do of any other type of honey bee removal or cutout. We don’t need to dismantle the chimney, we rarely remove more than 4 individual bricks. When honey bees occupy a chimney space it is usually one of three scenarios or a combination of them.
Honey Bees in Roof
Generally speaking honey bees don’t colonise large roof spaces, when they are flying in beneath tiles they more often than not are colonising a cavity wall or an old dismantled chimney stack that is hidden beneath the tiles. But they love dormer windows and flat roofs
Honey Bees in Wall
We remove bees from walls and we can do it without taking them down or knocking huge holes into them. We remove the bees the wax & the honey. Rarely do we need to remove more than 8 bricks, which we remove whole so they go back as they were.
